The Oak Glen Fire III started on Sunday August 30, 2009 at 1:45 pm in the hills south of Potato Canyon Road and Oak Glen Rd. They started making Mandatory Evacuations around 3:20 pm. The fire burned over 1,000 acres and is still continuing to grow. The fire for the most part has burned just south of Oak Glen and no apple orchards or houses have been damaged. Pisgah Peak was burning and was a great concern for Snow-Line Orchard. But the fire continued to move SSE toward Oak Glen Rd. near Riley’s Farm.
Here are some of the pictures and video that I took. Thank-you brave firefighters and the amazing pilots for keeping Oak Glen safe.
We do want to report one casualty during the fire. One of our gray squirrels got ran over by a car or fire truck during the commotion.
A second fire has started a few miles from the fire burning near Oak Glen. Called the Pendleton Fire - 300 acres in heavy brush and other types of fuel - threatening 400 homes - Wildwood Canyon area evacuated.
